Concept:
Focus on hand-building and wheel-throwing approaches to pottery forms. Each day a new form is introduced. Forms to consider include: cups, bowls, plates, vases and lidded jars. Using earthenware clay and slips, work through concepts presented in daily demonstrations. Focus on skill-building and personal expression in the wet clay stages of making. The week culminates with bisque firings.
Media & Techniques:
Earthenware clay is used with leather-hard application slips. Wheel throwing, coil building and slab building techniques are demonstrated daily for each form to be explored. Work is bisque fired for students to take home.
Activities:
There are demonstrations with slideshows about contemporary and historic ceramics and plenty of one-on-one instruction.
